Steven Koinis is a successful and committed businessperson with the highest of ambitions, and the mindset to achieve them.
First receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan as a General Motors Scholar, and then self-financing his Master’s Degree in Business from the prestigious Harvard Business School, Mr. Koinis gained international business experience very early on in his career by working with the firm of Owens-Corning Fiberglas, Inc. in the United Kingdom, Belgium and Greece. This was to be only the first stop on his stellar career, as soon thereafter Mr. Koinis returned to the United States assuming the position of Director of Business Development at BTR, Plc.
Mr. Koinis would remain stateside for the next seven years, managing private equity and venture capital firms. During his time with these organizations he increased sales numbers, improved profit margins, and consolidated company operations leading to successful leveraged buy-outs and an initial public offering on NASDAQ.
In 1997, Steven turned his attention abroad once more, this time to the budding Middle Eastern markets of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. As Senior Manager in the Merchant & Investment Banking sector of the Abu Dhabi Investment Company (a wholly owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority – an entity which invests the assets of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi), he was successful on many fronts, including recapitalization to the tune of US $250 million, development of an investment strategy, and restructuring of the investment portfolio.
With the dawn of the new millennium Mr. Koinis took a position at The International Investor, a Kuwaiti shareholding company. While at The International Investor he obtained commitment for a $100 million private placement of equity, originated and structured capital-raising for a steel rolling mill in the region, and negotiated Consortium and Operating Agreements.
Today Mr. Koinis continues to be active in both the Middle East and United States as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Makan Capital Group.
