Sam Gyimah was first born in the UK before he lived in Ghana. He would eventually move back to the UK at the age of 16 and in due course, attend the University of Oxford. At Oxford, he would read PPE and serve as the President of the Oxford Union in 1997.
Following college, Sam Gyimah would start his career at Goldman Sachs. At the prominent US investment bank, Gyimah would work in the Mergers and Acquisitions and Equities Divisions. At Goldman, some of his work included one of the largest mergers in the UK, including the £100 billion merger of Glaxo Welcome and Smithkline Beecham.
At the age of 26, Gyimah moved on from Goldman Sachs as he persuaded certain superiors to provide backing for his first venture, which he served as co-founder. Gyimah’s business enterprise would eventually grow to 70 staff members and have a turnover of £10 million in three years. With the success of his work, Sam Gyimah would win the CBI's 'Entrepreneur of the Future' award in 2005.
In 2006, Gyimah started work on his second business, Workology.com, an online community for professionals who want to take control of their working life. Workology went live in March 2008 and is backed by a number of partners from Goldman, some of who backed Betfair, the online betting exchange.
Over the past, Sam Gyimah has served as a Governor of an inner London comprehensive, on the Board of Nacro, a Housing Association, and is currently on the Development Board for Somerville College, Oxford. He was Chairman of the Bow Group, a think tank, in 2007 and in 2005 edited 'From the ashes…' an anthology of essays (published by Methuen) on the future of the Conservative Party with contributions from high profile politicians, journalists and businessmen. Outside of business, Gyimah is an avid supporter of the Arsenal Football Club. In addition, he also enjoys cooking and being a keen runner. He completed the London marathon in 2008.
