Rudy Jurgensen has served as public affairs manager for the
Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District in Los Altos, Calif., since
2003. Rudy Jurgensen’s duties with the District include supervising
seven staff members in his department which coordinates the activities
of up to 500 volunteers, manages the Web site, and promotes regular
media coverage of District activities and accomplishments, among other
things. Rudy Jurgensen’s annual departmental budget tallies about $1.1
million.
The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, for which Rudy Jurgensen
serves as spokesperson, covers some 57,000 acres of natural open space
lands in 25 preserves in the San Francisco Bay Area. Rudy Jurgensen
describes the District’s mission as “preserving a continuous greenbelt
of open space land; protecting the natural environment; and providing
opportunities for ecologically sensitive public enjoyment and
education.”
During his nearly five years with the District, Rudy Jurgensen has
coordinated media outreach, drafted policies and overseen the Web site.
Rudy Jurgensen has also conducted surveys, created outreach materials
and organized District events.
Before he joined the District, Rudy Jurgensen served as Director of
Client Services for Kearns & West, a San Francisco-based public
relations firm, from 1996 to 2003. Rudy Jurgensen’s clients during this
time included the U.S. Forest Service, a local telecommunications
provider, Edison Electric Institute and Mendocino Redwood Co. Rudy
Jurgensen created outreach and media materials for Kearns & West’s
clients.
From 1992 to 1996, Rudy Jurgensen worked with a public relations firm
in Hamburg, Germany, called Industrie-Contact. In his role as Account
Executive, Rudy Jurgensen managed lobbying campaigns on both the
federal and European levels. Rudy Jurgensen also managed media
relations, drafted materials for public outreach campaigns and
organized conferences, seminars and workshops.
Another role held by Rudy Jurgensen included serving as Executive
Assistant to Juergen Klimke, the company’s CEO and former member of the
Hamburg state legislature who is now a member of the federal
legislature. In this position, Rudy Jurgensen researched legislation
and issues, drafted legislation, wrote speeches and organized meetings
with constituents.
Rudy Jurgensen completed an M.A. degree in political science at New
York University in 1991. For his undergraduate work, Rudy Jurgensen
earned a B.A. in political science from the University of
California-Berkeley in 1989.
