Karl Zachar serves as general manager for oncology software firm
IntrisiQ Financial, Waltham, Mass., where he led the turnaround and
repositioning of the company into an oncology data business. He joined
the firm in 2004. The company’s data clients include hedge fund
managers, pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
From 2001 to 2004, Karl Zachar worked as president and COO for
Shackleton School, a Boston-based experiential high school founded by
alumni and faculty from the Harvard Business School and the Harvard
School of Education. At Shackleton, Karl Zachar led a staff of 22;
developed management systems that supported the school’s educational,
fundraising and administrative goals; and worked closely with donors
and the board of directors to meet Shackleton’s operating needs and
capital requirements. The annual fundraising budget was $2 million.
Before joining Shackleton, Karl Zachar served for eight years with
Boston-based Goldman Sachs as vice president of the investment
management division. From 1998 to 2001, Karl Zachar held the position
of chief investment officer for the top-ranked team within Goldman’s
Private Wealth Management division. Together with a team of three other
professionals, Karl Zachar collectively managed some $12 billion of
client assets.
Achievements during Karl Zachar’s time at Goldman include:
A five-year equity track record that outperformed the S&P 500
by approximately 250 bps;
Consistently ranking in the top 5% of all teams within Goldman
Sachs;
Earning the company’s Model Team status across entire division;
Leading workshops on portfolio management for investment
professionals;
Captaining Harvard Business School recruiting; and
Earning Goldman’s Division Leadership Award in 2000.
Before joining Goldman, Karl Zachar as an associate worked for
Prudential Global Funding, New York. During this time, Karl Zachar was
responsible for maintaining 250 domestic and international trading
accounts. Karl Zachar managed currency risk for positions up to $200
million using U.S. Treasury bonds, Eurodollar futures, and Canadian
government securities.
Karl Zachar earned his MBA from Harvard Business School, where he
co-authored a Harvard case study on corporate restructuring. His
undergraduate degree comes from Amherst College, where he earned a BA,
Magna Cum Laude, in economics and international relations.
In his free time, Karl Zachar serves as a board member for the North
Carolina Outward Bound School, an outdoor, experiential leadership
programs for teens. Karl Zachar is also an agriculture committee member
for the Codman Community Farm in Lincoln, Mass. The farm’s mission is
to conserve New England farmland and heritage breed livestock while
educating children in agriculture, conservation and animal husbandry.
An accomplished athlete, Karl Zachar enjoys white-water kayaking, scuba
diving, hiking, mountain biking and participating in triathlon
competitions. Last summer Karl Zachar completed both the Escape from
Alcatraz Triathlon and the 190-mile Pan Mass Challenge. His PMC team
raised more than $40,000 for multiple myeloma research at the Dana
Farber Cancer Institute. Karl Zachar is married with two sons.
