Mr. Bruce Charles Maag received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Ohio State University in 1970. In 1974, he enrolled as a student at the University of Dayton, where he received his Master of Science in Counseling. Mr. Maag also holds over 500 hours of continual professional development through attendance at numerous local, state, and national conferences and seminars.
His abundance of devotion and experience led him to focus on bettering the lives of children in need. Bruce Maag has spent many years serving various organizations whose goal is to help serve youth. He is a Diplomat of the American Psychotherapy Association and one of the founders of FFTA (Foster Family Based Treatment Association). For 10 years, Maag served on the Board of FFTA and was the fifth person to hold the President position. His exceptional work was recognized by the state of Ohio, and in 1994, he received the Virginia Colson award from the Ohio Association for Child Caring Agencies.
To date, Maag has founded multiple treatment foster care programs, which have spread to 16 states, including Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY) and Phoenix Homes. Phoenix Homes has and currently is operating treatment foster care programs in 7 states and offers services to over 350 youth. Maag himself was a Treatment Foster Parent for three years. Bruce Maag remains a licensed social worker and counselor living in Lima, Ohio.
