I designed by first website back in 1994 for Rank Film Distributions. It had a grey background, centred text and one image. Ah, those were the days. Everything was so simple then. But things move on and so have I. After leaving university I worked at IBM for a bit before getting a job with a dot com company called Townpages. I learnt more in those three years than I have done in the rest of my career. Unfortunately, I mainly learnt how not to run a company and unsurprisingly (like most dot com companies) it folded in 2002. A comic photo of Paul with a halo It was at this point that I founded Headscape with ex pop star Marcus Lillington and too-clever-by-half academic Chris Scott. By learning from all of the mistakes of Townpages we have built a very successful little business that has continually grown since launch. I have had the fortune to work with a great client list including the National Trust, Ordnance Survey, BP and more universities than you could shake a stick at. These days I do a mixture of speaking, designing, coding, writing and podcasting. I produce podcasts for both boagworld and .net magazine. I also write for whoever will let me and speak at web design conferences such as Refresh06 or Web2Live when they ask. I am passionate about web standards, enthusiastic about accessibility and grumpy about pretty much everything else.
