The Somerville Homeless Coalition was founded in 1985 when community leaders, neighbors, church leaders, and city officials came together to address the issue of homelessness. The Coalition currently runs two alcohol and drug-free shelters and a food pantry. The shelter seeks to work with tenents on a case-by-case basis in order to help them back onto their feet.

The Human Rights Commission works to protect and preserve the constitutional, civil, and human rights of all people in the City of Somerville. The Commission aims to eliminate unlawful discrimination and to provide education about human rights issues in our City, and works with diverse individuals and groups to promote tolerance and mutual respect.

The Mystic River Watershed Association was established by concerned citizens in 1972. Its mission is to protect and restore clean water and related natural resources in the basin's communities and to promote responsible stewardship of our natural resources through educational initiatives.
